V-RING

Its design is based on three components: The body, a conical self-adjusting lip, and a hinge. The elastic body adheres to the rotating shaft while the actual sealing occurs at the point of contact between the conical lip and counterface The V-Ring's flexible hinge causes the sealing lip to apply very light contact pressure against the counterface.

V-rings are mounted on and rotate with the shaft. The lip seals axially against a counter face, which is perpendicular to the shaft. The body has an interference fit on the shaft and holds the lip in position. V-rings can be stretched out and fitted over a flange during installation, which is a very valuable characteristic.

V-ring seals are available in a large variety of designs and sizes to fit the requirements of most applications. Normally, the V-rings are made out of Nitrile rubber of hardness 65 to 70° shore 'A' for a working temperature upto 100 ° C. When the temperatures are high, there the Viton material can be used. The V-Rings is fitted by simply stretching over and sliding onto the shaft and clamped.

The performance of the seal depends on the angle of V. It offers the advantage of a smaller cross-section for sealing ability. It is seldom used singly, but when used in sets, it provides sealing at extremely high pressures with only right kind of the preload.

TYPES OF V-RINGS:

V-Ring A Type:

Most common V-ring with normal cross section and straight backside face.V-Ring S Type:

V-ring with normal low cross section and a tapered back face but wide body, providing a very firm hold on the shaft. Wide body ensures higher radial force than V-A type.

V-Ring L Type:

Narrow low-section V-ring intended for the use in compact sealing arrangements.

V-Ring E Type:

Wide high-section V-ring designed as a secondary seal for heavy-duty applications where the primary seal has to be protected against water and/or solid contaminants. It permits the largest axial displacements. It is heavy duty large diameter seal used in steel mills, paper mills and rolling mills as a dirt/ water excluder seal.

Advantages:

The V-Ring can be used as the primary seal or as a back-up seal, to retain lubricants or exclude contaminants. The V-Ring, which has very high surface speed capabilities, can run without lubrication. Minimal friction and heat buildup results in extended seal life. V-Rings running over 1600 FPM (8.13 m/s) may require axial support and radial retention at even higher velocities.

  • Full range of flexible, easy-to-install V-rings.
  • Protects bearings and oil seals against dirt, dust and water splash.
  • Lip designs and elastomers for most rotary duties.
  • Sizes to suit standard shafts.

Applications:

The V-Ring is suited for direct shaft mounting in sealing applications for:

  • Conveyor rollers
  • Transport equipment
  • Rolling mills
  • Agricultural machinery
  • Paper mills
  • Grinding equipment
  • Appliances
